Some people don't grow up around animals, and their friends don't have pets, so they aren't exposed to animal things, such as purring.     know exactly how it works. I've never really had too many sick cats. I've had farm cats, outdoor cats indoor cats, indoor/outdoor cats, Persian cats, full blooded cats, rescue cats you name it I've had them. A lot of the kitties came from people who dumped them at the end of our street. We always found homes for them. Vote Reply Share

    666afternoon 2 hr. ago awww!! let her know that it means the cat is happy and enjoying your attention great thing about cats: ambient "enjoying your presence atm" sound/tactile feedback. took me some time when I got a job working with dogs, not to be nervous touching a dog that wasn't purring when I touched it, cuz in my mind that means stop that or face the slap/chomp dogs do have loose/taut skin and fur depending on their mood, tho, which cats also have in a different way

    Gemmadeen 1 hr. ago I was kinda dumb about this also until I was in my 20s. We didn't have any cats in our house while I was growing up, and I was honesty a bit scared of cats by that point. My friend had me hold her cat and I pet it like I would my dog, and I told her she should take the cat because it was shaking (vibrating) and probably was scared.
